How to plan AC for a new building, shop or café
A checklist to follow before your interiors are finished.
Plan AC early
AC affects ceilings, walls, power and plumbing. Decisions made late mean rework and extra cost. Talk to your AC partner when the interior plan is being drawn.
The checklist
- Know the space: size, ceiling height, glass area and sun direction
- Estimate the heat load: people, lights and equipment
- Decide zones: which areas need separate control
- Choose the system type: split, cassette, ductable or VRF
- Find outdoor unit space with safe access for service
- Plan the route for pipes and ducts
- Plan drainage for condensate water
- Check the electrical load and supply
- Plan fresh air where needed
- Plan service access above false ceilings
Test before handover
Before you open, ask for a cooling test, a leak check and a walkthrough of the controls.
Plan maintenance too
A yearly maintenance plan keeps the system reliable. It is easier to set up from day one.
